Question : How do food preservatives affect the human body?

Claim: Food preservatives affect the human body in both negative and positive ways.

Evidence: Some food preservatives that affect the human body in a negative way are Sulfites.  This can cause asthma related sensitivity  and also allergy in some cases. Some food preservatives that affect the human body in a positive way are Ascorbic Acid  such as helping our skin. It is a form of vitamin C that are found in fruits and vegetables .

Reasoning: This shows the harmful and beneficial preservatives that are in our foods. There are many more preservatives like Nitrates or Nitrites that are harmful and could possibly cause stomach cancer.  All preservatives can increase the life of foods which means the foods will not spoil. Although there are preservatives that are linked with cancer, they still give us some of our daily nutrients.

Rebuttal: The claim “ All food preservatives are not safe” is false because without most food preservatives, we must eat fruit, vegetables, and other things right then and there. For example, some food preservatives include vitamin C like Ascorbic Acid. Emulsification is a process that allows two substances to mix like water and oil in our food preservatives. This is how bile breaks up fats in the digestive system This shows that there are many other preservatives that affect our bodies that are not only harmful way but beneficial way.
